HP Color Toner Cartridges

The HP family of colour laser printers is now very extensive, it ranges from the small desktop Color LaserJet 1600 suitable for the small office/ home market up to the current 5550 model which is a wide format, network printer capable of serving large workgroups. If you are using one of these machines in your work you will find cartridges compatible with it in this section.

Most HP color LaserJet printers have a central drum unit and individual colour toner cartridges rotate round this unit, laying colour down on the page one at a time, this involves the drum unit making four rotations, one for each colour. Some modern small HP colour printers have now incorporated a drum unit into each cartridge, allowing the page to pass through all four colours in one movement, expect to see more units in the future adopting this method. The advantage is that each time the toner is replaced so too is the drum, allowing consistant quality for the life of the cartridge. Colour cartridges vary greatly in the yield you can expect, from 2,000 pages right up to 12,000pages for larger printers, it is worth bearing in mind that these figures are worked on a low percentage of page covour, so if for example you are printing documents with a great deal of photographs or other heavy graphics, this figure will be greatly reduced.
