In a cartridge toner may only be one of the components required to produce prints, the toner is transferred onto the page by an OPC drum. In some manufacturers cartridges this drum is an integral part of the cartridge whilst others utilise a separate drum unit to perform this task.
Many manufacturers produce printers that employ a mix of both methods, however
the majority of the following toner cartridge types require a separate drum
unit.
Other manufacturers use a single piece toner cartridge
for most of their printers although colour laser printers often require a
separate drum unit, we detail below these manufacturers and general
guidance.
All
Canon mono cartridges for the current i-Sensys series printers are one piece
units and even many of the latest colour printers like the LBP5000 use a one piece
unit for each colour. Other colour printers use a separate toner cartridge for
each colour and have a central drum unit.
As Dell do not manufacture their own laser printers, they rebadge other
manufacturers ( mainly Lexmark), Dell printer cartridges are a mixture of both
types. Dell prefer to sell their printer supplies direct and our range of Dell
laser toner cartridges is less than we would like, however we do offer Dell
compatible cartridges for many printers in this range.
All HP laser toner cartridges for mono printers are one piece, most HP printers
use Canon engines, and the latest Color Laserjet printers, like the HP Laserjet 2600n also use a
one piece cartridge for each colour. Older printers HP Laserjet 2550 for example
use a separate cartridge toner for each colour and they rotate round a central
drum unit.
Lexmark printers' dependant on model may use either a one piece cartridge or a
separate toner cartridge and drum unit, see the Lexmark section of the site for
the supplies for your model.
Samsung
mono printers use a one piece laser toner cartridge whilst the colour printers
like the small Samsung
CLP300 printer use individual toner cartridges for each colour.
