Samsung CLX-6240FX Review

Samsungs CLX-4240FX is a large colour multifunction laser printer that includes many features. It is clearly aimed at small offices with the inclusion of automatic duplex, an internal hard drive and high memory storage. It has good print speeds and black and white print quality is high, unfortunately colour graphics are less impressive.

The CLX-6240FX is not easy to miss. At 651mm this is a tall machine largely because of the configuration of the toner cartridges internally. However, Samsung was not able to take advantage of the additional height, setting the machine's maximum input capability at 350 A4 pages. If this isn't adequate, another 250-sheet cassette is obtainable.

The USB, Ethernet and RJ-11 fax ports are set at the side of the Samsung CLX-6240FX; connected cables jut out somewhat. A second USB port is set out in the front for you to directly print or scan documents from a flash drive.

One thing we are most worried about with this machine is its control panel The Samsung CLX-6240FX has many buttons for the various functions. The panel is often confusing - particularly for first-time users - and could have been simplified by moving many of these options to the multifunction's on-screen menu.

Results of the monochrome documents were readable and have accurate characters even when printing 7-point type. When using default settings, documents can appear somewhat grey, but the Samsung CLX-6240FX colour laser multifunction's Print All Text to Darken feature darkens the text without inconsistently bolding words or sentences. Colour printing isn't quite as good. Though colours are largely solid, they tend to be oversaturated, and there were some alignment issues between text and coloured backgrounds. The colour registration can be adjust manually, however this can be tricky without a reference.
