Lexmark X264dn Review

Lexmark identifies the X264dn as a compact workgroup multifunction printer and it's definitely substantial as well as solid enough to exist inside a medium-sized place of work. It's actually a mono unit, yet it supports duplex printing as well as the capability to copy from single to double-sided pages, though not to generate full-duplex copies.

Cased in extremely light as well as medium dark grey plastic, the appliance is angular enough to appear functional, while not being unpleasant in less functional surroundings. The 50-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) features a gently tilted feed tray yet remains sensibly low profile and the primary laser printer section feeds to a significant output tray, immediately underneath the scanner.

The control panel, which extends the entire width of the front of the device, is effectively arranged with a 2-line by 16-character Lcd display in the centre, flanked by buttons with respect to navigation, menu selection and also to start and stop Copy and Scan work. On the left of this are choices for copying and also function selection buttons for Copy, Scan/E-mail and also Fax. On the right are a selection of fax selections along with a numeric pad designed for entering numbers.

The primary paper tray can take 250 sheets of paper and a fold down, single-sheet feed enables specialized media. The machine will take a single optional paper tray which could be a 250 or 550 sheet unit. At the back are sockets intended for USB and 10/100 Ethernet connections plus wireless connection is offered as a further alternative.

The two-piece drum and Lexmark X264dn toner cartridge slots in via the front and the photoconductor drum unit is good for 30,000 pages, in advance of requiring substitution. Lexmark gives you Presto! PageManager for document handling and OCR and also provides drivers for Postscript Level 3 and PCL 5 as standard. You will find support for Windows, OS X as well as Linux however, as usual, Linux drivers need to be downloaded.

Lexmark quotes a highest speed of 28ppm, but we just saw approximately half of this during test
The caliber of the prints using the Lexmark X264dn printer toner cartridge varies a lot with the type of document being printed. Black text comes through really cleanly, with the standard resolution of 1,200dpi ensuring there are not any rough edges to any characters. Greyscale graphics are usually OK in small volumes, yet graphics fills show some banding along with a limited range of grey hues.

Our photograph print was just fair with the Lexmark X264dn printer cartridge, with some banding in substantial areas of fill and some loss of details in darker tones. Photocopies of greyscale content are fairly ropey, with blotchy fills as well as dark shades coming through black, which makes overlaid text impossible to read.

The toner cartridges can be found in sizes of 3,500 and also 9,000 pages, with the 9,000 page part possessing a big enough yield to guarantee you won't need to maintain the model excessively. At present-day Internet prices it's a comparatively inexpensive product to run.

Maybe the greatest element in favour of the Lexmark X264dn is its selling price. It's exceptional to be in a position to buy a product with this spec and feature set for below £150. It is not a loss leader, moreover, since the consumables are priced to offer very reasonable operating costs, particularly in the event you have enough money for the high yield cartridges. It is fairly fast and produces fine prints, however greyscale copies are disappointing.
