Canon's i-SENSYS LBP3250 mono laser printer is a lightweight and thoughtfully designed product. Its specification is humble - just one USB port, diminished noise levels in addition to 8,000 page optimal monthly duty cycle turn it into a good personal laser printer for office or home usage. We were pleased by small touches like a flap to provide easier admittance to the printer's recessed USB port, which in turn spared us the usual procedure for fumbling blindly to put the cable in position. We also liked the smooth design and style, which has a hinged dust cover to help keep the output clean any time not in use. Even if you commence printing with the cover shut, pages can continue to emerge through a narrow slit inside of the cover. The input tray folds right out of the front of the device.
It's not hard to setup as well as install, having a basic driver and simply one consumable - a black toner cartridge which has an integrated photoconductor drum. We were also satisfied to discover that the LBP3250 has a 1,000 page beginner cartridge. Replacement 2,000 page 1871B002AA cartridges will cost you £49 each. This generates a page cost of 2.5p. Whilst this is not a lot higher than the average cost of a mono page from the majority of correspondingly priced laser as well as inkjet machines, it does not stick out when compared with the print costs of some other, less costly, mono lasers.
The printer's Total Cost of Ownership equally does not stand out. If you are a small user, printing 100 pages a month for a total of 3,600 over three years, you will spend £198 over that time period. This increases to £590 with regards to medium users printing 21,000 pages over the exact same three-year period of time.
Print rates of speed happen to be some of the fastest we have observed coming from a small mono laser unit, at 21.7ppm in our mono text examination along with 20.6ppm for the intensively illustrated greyscale business documents. Standard quality text as well as business illustrations were well-defined, dark as well as solid.
While the printer includes a fixed native resolution of 600x600dpi, there are three different quality configurations: Standard, Text/Lines and Web Pages, which make use of resolution enhancement to produce a powerful resolution as high as 2,400x600dpi. Text/Lines mode is intended to clean jagged edges when generating mono prints of coloured text and line drawings.
The Web Pages setting helps ensure best quality when printing graphics-heavy content like webpages, photographs or perhaps illustrated documents. We used the latter together with the Canon i-SENSYS LBP3250 toner cartridge for our photograph printing tests. This made simply no variation to the pace at which the photo images printed - 16 seconds for six photos upon three sheets of A4 - yet made some obvious enhancements to the quality through smoothing out places which appeared grainy with Standard quality mode.
The LBP3250 is very well designed, complete with excellent print quality, and also extremely fast print rates for this type of lightweight unit. However, unless of course its sleek style plus fast printing especially get you, its operating expenses are not sufficiently good to combat the competitors. Should you be a light user with a small initial budget, Epson's Aculaser M1200 costs a bit less than one-half the cost to buy, while customers with large printing requirements should look at both Samsung's SCX-4600 mono laser MFP or ML-2525 single-function model.
