The i-SENSYS LBP3010 is Canon's entry-level, cheapest laser printer, intended for private usage at a desktop. In spite of the small selling price, an unusual level of design has gone in the unit, creating a modestly sized model which will still perform at very good speed.
The unit is cased in ice white, along with a gloss cover which folds up and right out of the top of the machine to create the output tray. A slender, strip of plastic, full of designer holes, deflects pages while they emerge from the mechanism to ensure they lay flat in the tray. There is a single sheet feed intended for special media on the cover. The two trays takes a wide selection of paper sizes, from A5 anywhere up to 215mm x 355mm.
There is not any control panel as such; merely a single green indicator left of the output tray, which exhibits power as well as data, along with a single button to feed paper. A solitary USB socket at the rear is placed behind a modest, hinged cover, thus just the cable is obvious.
A simple driver is provided, along with very little additional software, but Canon still offers support for Windows from 2000 on, OS X from 10.3.9 as well as various incarnations of Linux. Excellent diversity when it comes to such an affordable device.
The combined drum and toner cartridge slips inside the center of the device from the top, once you have folded the hinged top cover upward and back. Swapping it's very quick and easy. There are no optional accessories available for this machine.
Canon rates the i-SENSYS LBP3010 at 14ppm, and that is a very reasonable speed for this category of personal printer. Our five-page text document completed in 29 seconds, giving a speed of 10.5ppm. Toner-save mode, the nearest the Canon offers to a draft mode, took the same time, however the five-page text and graphics print was marginally quicker, at 26 seconds, or 11.5ppm. The 20-page text document, on the other hand, hit 12.1ppm and we can believe, whenever printing lengthier documents, the machine could get closer to 14ppm. A 15 x 10cm picture on an A4 sheet took a quick nine seconds. This is undoubtedly because of the nearly instant-on fuser, meaning that there is almost no time to wait prior to when pages commence to print.
The i-SENSYS LBP3010 produces quite acceptable prints. Black text is dense, sharp, and also as fine as lasers costing double the cost. Toner-save print is somewhat dotty, yet is nevertheless legible for the purpose of draft documents. Greyscale graphics are fair, although there are several noticeable dither patterns along with a limited selection of greyscales. The business graphics we print as a test article, having four distinctive colours to its features, reproduced in only a couple of shades of grey. The picture test piece is actually above average, and there is a fair amount of detail inside the hard-to-reproduce shadows, but noticeable dithering marred a region of sky in the picture plus some details were gone.
There's a solitary, 1,500-page consumable comprising an integrated Canon i-SENSYS LBP3010 printer toner cartridge. This helps make it tough to purchase the incorrect thing, yet likewise offers minimal scope for savings.
The i-SENSYS LBP3010 is an excellent little personal laser printer by Canon - just the job for banging out home office correspondence, school reports or college dissertations. For very little initial cost, it gives you fine quality print inside a nicely designed box. It is a bit more costly than some to run, but the cost per page depends on how good a deal you are able to strike for the solitary consumable.
