The Brother MFC-9120CN a colour LED multifunction printer (MFP) targeted at household offices along with small workgroups, gives you sensible speed plus paper capacity with respect to its selling price. We wish its graphics as well as photo quality had been better, nevertheless it should be a welcome addition to mini offices, particularly those that concentrate on text printing yet still have the occasional requirement for colour.
The MFC-9120CN prints, scans, faxes, and also copies. Additionally, it prints, scans, and also faxes over a network; it is possible to fax either via the MFP's control panel or from a computer system (PC Fax). It features a 35-page automatic document feeder (ADF) for the purpose of copying, faxing, or scanning multi-page documents.
The MFC-9120CN employs LEDs instead of lasers as a source of light; LED printers are thought of as laser class. The MFC-9120CN, white together with a dark blue front panel and paper trays, measures 15.7 by 16.9 by 19.3 inches (HWD)-which is reasonably compact for a laser-class MFP- and weighs in at 50 pounds. Its paper total capacity is 250 sheets, and it features a 1-page manual feed slot. It is lacking in an automatic duplexer for printing on the two sides of a sheet of paper; the driver supplies on-screen directions for manual duplexing.
The front panel, on top of the output tray, includes an alphanumeric keypad for the purpose of faxing, a 2-line monochrome LCD display, a 4-way controller, plus buttons for printing, scanning, and faxing capabilities.
The MFC-9120CN connects to a PC by means of a USB cable, or to a network by way of Ethernet. We analyzed it over an Ethernet connection using a computer system running Windows Vista.
The MFC-9120CN printed at 5.5 effective pages per minute (ppm), a good speed and in line with its rating as high as 17 ppm for both colour as well as monochrome printing; it should really print at about this speed whenever printing text only. (Our test suite includes text pages, graphics pages, and pages blending text and graphics.)
Text quality was in fact ordinary for a laser-class printer, which signifies it's actually really good. It is alright for nearly any business usage besides the likes of desktop publishing, which usually necessitates small fonts.
Graphics quality was in fact a tad below par with regard to a colour laser. Dithering (solid areas emerging as visible dot patterns) along with banding (a regular sequence of faint stripes or bars of discoloration) were prevalent (although fairly minor) concerns, and a few solid places highlighted an unequal supply of ink. Thin, collared lines were often gone entirely. The output was satisfactory for schoolwork or everyday business use, and maybe for PowerPoint handouts dependant upon who your readership is and also the importance of the presentation, although not for formal reports or papers you seek to wow with a good sense of professionalism.
Picture quality was also below par. Colours were slightly under-saturated in a few of prints. Many images demonstrated some amount of dithering, and a couple demonstrated mild banding. Straight lines appeared with a jagged edge in various places. Photo quality is fine enough to print out recognizable photos from Web pages, but that is almost all.
The Brother MFC-9120CN gives you quick colour printing for a mini or even home office, or maybe small workgroup. It gives you decent paper capacity and good text quality. Its picture and graphics quality, nonetheless, aren't up to the level we think suitable for printing marketing items such as one-page mailers or trifold brochures.
