The Lexmark Interpret S405 wireless 4 in 1 inkjet printer is sold with standard capacity Lexmark 100 ink cartridges fitted. We recommend when renewing cartridges on this printer to purchase the high yield 100XL cartridges. These have three times the capacity and cost only about twice as much. Not only will you obtain prints at a lower cost but you will also be changing cartridges less frequently.

Clad in frosted black and light grey, the Lexmark S405 printer continues to have high-gloss parts, including the top of its totally horizontal Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Paper is gathered and rolled from the ADF in much the same manner as blank sheets are picked out from a horizontal paper tray.
Blank sheets on this specific unit still feed via a close to vertical hopper at the back, whilst this one has the innovation of a little slide, down the right-hand side, which in turn adjusts the paper guides from A4 to photo papers. The output tray pulls out of the front, along with a steeply raked end, which flips upwards to get output pages.
The control panel, with its somewhat unlikely acrylic band over the top, is effectively set out, having a number pad meant for fax utilization as well as a basic, four-button navigation set which, coupled with its backlit, 2-line by 16-character Liquid crystal screen, delivers very good control of the printer's features. Four, silver buttons above the screen pick out copy, scan, fax and photo printing settings.
Same with the new Canon and HP designs,Lexmark has switched to single ink cartridges with its new Vixiz ink system, with the semi-permanent print heads now not integrated into the cartridges. Although it will need plenty of jottling just to position the Lexmark cartridges since it wouldn't fit in easily to the head carrier.
The new model range furnishes a little more realism to print speeds. Lexmark promises 17ppm and 11ppm for black and colour prints, respectively, however we observed 5.36ppm for five pages of black and white text, climbing to 6.78ppm on the extended, 20-page document. The black text and colour graphics print delivered a speed of 4.11ppm.
These are actually not bad rates of speed for an inkjet all-in-one, although they are again extended through the at times lengthy processing of pages before the start of print - we saw 26 seconds in one instance.
15 x 10cm photo prints varied from 43 to 52 seconds, and this is really noteworthy for a device found in this class. This goes for photograph reproduction, too, though perhaps we would drop the 'very'. The test photos demonstrated fine levels of depth within both light and dark areas of the images and even though there was a lesser amount of red than in the originals, this is less of a fault when compared with too much red.
Colour on plain paper, as in business graphics, is clear with no visible dither patterns and also registration of mono text over colour is excellent. A colour photocopy displays less lightening of coloured regions than in a number of of the machine's rivals, too.
Black text is generally clean, although under a loupe you could observe some feathering into the paper fibres and in general print is to a better quality than from prior Lexmark all-in-ones.
Lexmark Interpret S405 ink cartridges are obtainable in two sizes. Significant consumables costs have nothing to do with print technology, needless to say, and are strictly a selling decision about just how much to ask from you with regard to the cartridges. Page costs continue to be concealed to many new customers and may come as an unpleasant shock.
This is the first of Lexmark's new collection of inkjet all-in-ones we've examined and generally the improvments were amazing. Whilst ink expenses are actually still too high, the further economy of separate ink cartridges, whereby you do not need to toss a tri-colour cartridge aside whenever a single ink is spent, is some compensation. Speeds are good and additionally print quality is actually much better
