HP's newest creation, the Photosmart C6380, is located at the very top end of the all-in-one market and boasts not only quality scans and also copies, but top quality photo prints too.
Wireless is becoming a lot more widespread in equipment these days, and the Photosmart C6380 is a follower of the tendency using built-in 802.11g Wi-fi. Relatively uncommonly, additionally , it includes an Ethernet port, and that is something individuals who suffer from weak wireless signals will certainly truly appreciate since it will mean you'll be able to connect the machine by way of power line networking through the mains, for instance.
Due to curved edges along with a stylish white and silver design, the Photosmart C6380 certainly is visually impressive. Various buttons are dotted across the front, whilst a colour 2-inch display is located on the left and consequently lets you preview and also carry out simple editing on pictures loaded by way of the multi-format card reader. Nevertheless, the screen's modest dimensions tends to make this tricky, and we think many people might keep to editing photos using a Computer.
The Photosmart C6380 didn't throw up any problems throughout set-up and thus, in contrast to numerous wireless models; nor did it need to be first connected by way of USB so as to set up the wireless settings. In its place, wireless setup happens on the unit itself via the built-in display: it scans for near by networks, you select the actual one you might be after and next type in the WEP/WPA key.
As the name hints, the Photosmart C6380 handles photo prints with aplomb. Our A4 colour photographs appeared gorgeous, with a five ink cartridge system (Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, and also a separate Black ink just for text) generating strong, vibrant colours and an outstanding degree of fine detail.
Of course, HP furnished us with its top-of-the-range Premium Plus Photo A4 paper to analyze it on but even on less expensive, un-branded photo paper outcomes were still striking.
When it comes to speed capacity the Photosmart C6380 is about typical, with A4 colour prints at the best quality settings taking about four minutes. Just after printing 30 colour A4 pictures a warning sprang up that the Photo Black ink was already getting low. The Cyan, Magenta as well as Yellow inks all still had a considerable amount of ink remaining, and had HP decided on a combined colour ink cartridge this ink would now have to be binned. Thankfully, however, each ink may be exchanged individually.
We've no problems about the quality of text prints employing the HP Photosmart C6380 ink cartridges and you'd be hard pushed to distinguish the final results from those of a laser printer. Additionally it is pretty fast, churning out our test pages at a pace of 15ppm. On the other hand, if you haven't made use of the machine for some time you might have to initially go through a painfully slow warm-up procedure which could extend to a minute.
As a scanner, the Photosmart C6380 functions fairly effectively. A 300dpi A4 colour scan will take just under 17 seconds to materialise and, even though in no way stunning, the standard will likely be adequate for most home users. At the same time, mono photocopies are fairly fast at 15 seconds each, however once more if the machine determines a warm-up procedure is in order you could finish up needing to wait around a while longer.
The Photosmart C6380 is a touch on the costly side, and obvious omissions include a fax module and auto-document feeder (ADF).
