If you'd like a multifunction printer for enjoyment rather than for work, HP's PSC 1350 might suit you perfectly. This device is able to scan, copy, as well as print, and it has built-in slots pertaining to reading most widespread digital-camera memory cards. Developed for personal use, the PSC 1350 features just a basic strip of buttons instead of an LCD-equipped control panel. However what the 1350 does not have in hardware it makes up for in software, with an abundance of interlocking applications targeted to scanning and messing around with pictures.
Symmetrically formed, it resembles a nice-looking grey shoebox having a silver top encased in a sheet of rigid plastic. The plastic sheet is really the scanner cover, which in turn lifts at the long edge to expose a letter/A4-size glass. The scanner lid's left border exhibits a column of buttons which work the 1350 with no computer. Four flash-memory slots inlayed in the 1350's front read six common digital-camera card types.
The printer portion includes a shallow paper tray with flaps that can retract when the tray is empty to regenerate the shoebox appearance. The paper path deposits prints as well as copies on top of the paper tray. A panel at the rear permits stiff paper to exit through a direct course. A gaping hole over this paper tray offers cramped access to the HP PSC1350 ink cartridges. Sadly, the 1350 holds only two ink cartridges at a time, therefore you might have to swap cartridges frequently. HP fails to supply a photo cartridge; that's extra.
The PSC 1350 presents plenty of helpful features regarding photograph hounds. One is a chance to print photos from CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, Secure Digital, and also xD-Digital cards with no Computer.
An incorporated software app known as Photo and Imaging Gallery features a huge collection of styles grouped under cards, album pages, as well as flyers. Photo and Imaging Gallery contains applications for cropping, enhancing, and also cleaning photographs. Another application, named HP Memories Disc, transfers pictures from memory cards directly on to writable optical media, for example CDs.
Regrettably, the PSC 1350's does not perform well, speedwise. It prints text at an almost unbearably time-consuming 1.4 pages per minute (ppm) and photograph prints needed over 13mpp.
The PSC 1350's print as well as scan quality fares much better. Normal text looks well-defined as well as black on plain paper. A few closed parts fill in on very small type sizes, however normal-size text appears as effective as that of any inkjet. Collared documents on plain paper possess very good depth as well as amazingly clean textures, without any banding or artefacts; the only weakness is the fact that colours, though precise, do not appear as saturated as they ought to. And high-resolution pictures with glossy paper appear spectacular, by way of excellent colour, outstanding depth with no dottiness, banding, or some other detractions. The 1350's greyscale scans catch great depth and also differentiate among hues of grey. The 1350 is less competent with the colour scans: textures appear abrasive as well as dotty, while subtle information as well as shading don't get through, although the device catches colours pretty precisely.
The PSC 1350 scanned black documents at a very zippy 5.7ppm and also colour documents at 1.7ppm. It makes copies at approximately half a page each minute, and that is average for inkjets.
The PSC 1350 can make outstanding prints and also acceptable scans, however it does so at a rather slow print speed which renders it less handy in office conditions.
