Original Ink Cartridges
In the various sections of the website you will
note products with the appendix - Original. This indicates that this product is
the cartridge manufactured by the original printer manufacturer for use in
the printer and is the safest option to purchase although probably the
most expensive. Ink cartridges can be divided into two distinct types, those with
a printer head as an integral part of the cartridge and those that require
a separate head situated inside the printer. In general HP and Lexmarktend
to use one piece cartridges and other manufacturers use separate units, these
are sometimes referred to as ink tanks and a separate tank or cartridge is
required for each colour. We detail below the position of the major
manufacturers together with some anomalies.
Brother Ink Cartridges
All current Brother ink printers use individual ink
cartridges for each colour and the print head is located separately inside the
printer. Some black cartridges are available in two capacities and the better
value is to purchase the high yield version as this works out cheaper per print.
An example would be the LC100HYBK cartridge.
Canon Ink Cartridges
Canon printers use both types of cartridge at this
time, many of their printers at the budget market useCanon
inkjet cartridges like the PG40 black cartridge and CL41 colour
cartridge. The current range of Canon Pixma printers receive
very good reviews and even the mid priced of these use individual cartridges,
some of the more expensive printers even use two black cartridges, the larger
being the Pgi-5Bk cartridge. At the
top end of the range you can find printers that use as many as 10 individual
cartridges.
Epson Ink Cartridges
All new Epson printers use individual ink cartridges and
the print head is inside the printer, although some people still refer to Epson inkjet
cartridges, this term is not strictly accurate. Even the cheapest Epson
budget printers use 4 individual ink cartridges and the best value is to be
found in purchasing multipacks like the T071540 value pack. The
more expensive Stylus Photo series printers can use up to 8 cartridges.
HP Ink Cartridges
Most HP ink printers only require 2 cartridges, a black
cartridge and a tri-colour cartridge. These HP inkjet
cartridges contain the printhead in the cartridge so both items are
renewed every time you fit a replacement cartridge. Some specialist HP printers
like the HP Business Inkjet range and the HP Officejet series have separate
print heads, which are also consumable items and fit into the printer, these can
also be renewed individually.
Lexmark Ink Cartridges
All Lexmark printers come fitted with Lexmark inkjet
cartridges, a black cartridge and a tri-colour cartridge, so when you renew
the cartridge you automatically fit a new printhead at the same time.
